Day Stringer
I am the oldest of three children. My independent mom had a strong influence on my life and taught me to dream and to pursue my education. I graduated from Brownwood High School in 1966 and from Howard Payne University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in education with teaching fields in Mathematics and Art. I taught high school mathematics for 24 years and was the administrator for a classroom for high performing tennis students for 5 years. I was selected as Teacher of the Year, in NEISD in 1991, and in CCISD in 2003.
Throughout my life I have pursued my love of art. In elementary school I painted sets for school plays, in middle and high school my electives were always in art, and I have attended art workshops throughout the years. My mediums include ceramics, watercolor, alcohol ink, and acrylics. Currently, I create art fulltime in a studio in the McKinney Art Gallery (nicknamed The Hobbit Studio, since both the ceiling and the artist are vertically challenged). I am known as “G’ma Day”, not as famous as ‘G’ma Moses”, but since 2016 I have been enjoying making and selling art while contributing to the art environment in North Texas.
